School of Sound 2019

The next School of Sound International Symposium will be held from

24 – 27 April 2019 at London’s Southbank Centre.

We are delighted to announce that Falmouth University

will be sponsoring this, the 13th, School of Sound.

The School of Sound presents a programme that explores sound in all its forms, creating an awareness of how sound works throughout the arts and audio-visual media. It is as relevant for the sound designer and composer as it is for the director, writer, choreographer or installation artist. Anyone who works with sound will find the programme a stimulus and inspiration for their work.
Past programmes have included presentations by opera director Peter Sellars, choreographer Siobhan Davies, film sound designers Walter Murch, Randy Thom, Kristian Eidnes Andersen and Ren Klyce; directors Ken Loach and David Lynch, theorists Michel Chion, Laura Mulvey, Rick Altman and Ian Christie; sound artists Hans Peter Kuhn, Christina Kubisch, Scanner and Bernhard Leitner; and Sami yoik artist, Ánde Somby. Each School of Sound is a wide-ranging programme that is essentially about listening.
To see past programmes go to Previous Symposia. You can also hear and see some of the past presentations at our Archive.
This year we are honoured to have Falmouth University as our sponsor. Learn more about their programme on our website or at Falmouth University, School of Film & Television.
And we welcome the generous support of the Southbank Centre enabling us to return to the wonderful Purcell Room which has been refurbished over the past three years.

Details of the 2019 programme will become available in the coming months. Registration opens 1 October 2018. For information contact the School of Sound office,
