How do I connect to an online event?
Guidelines for participating in all our events are in Help With Online Events.
Does the cost of a ticket or purchase of a recording include VAT?
No. VAT will be added to your order at checkout unless you can provide an EU VAT registration number in which case VAT will not be added.
Under UK VAT rules, for online educational courses VAT must be charged according to the place of supply (UK), irrespective of the location of the customer.
Can I get a refund after I buy a ticket for an online talk or workshop?
We do not offer refunds for our online events and tickets are not transferable to future events.
For workshops or short courses, a 50% refund will be given if a cancellation is requested up to 72 hours before the start of the workshop. No refunds can be given for partial attendance or non-attendance.
If the workshop needs to be rescheduled and you are not able to participate at the new time, a full refund will be given.
Are there any requirements (age, professional experience, level of study, etc.) in order to take part in your talks or other events?
Our talks are open to anyone with an interest in the subject or speaker, though certain subjects may require some specialist knowledge to be fully understood. This should be clear from the event description.
Materials screened will generally have been previously screened publicly (in cinemas, on TV or on the net). As a rule these would be rated 15 (British Board of Film Classification). If you need to know more about the specific content of an event, contact us beforehand.
Are the events recorded? Can I buy a recording after the event has ended?
Most events will be recorded though some, such as small seminars or short courses, may not be. This is at the discretion of the presenter and is indicated on the event description. For those events that are recorded, the videos will be made available for one month, free of charge, to those having purchased a ticket. Anyone who did not purchase a ticket will be able to buy the recording starting one month after the event and view it online.
Can I attend an event but not be recorded?
The recording will include anyone who attends and has their camera and/or microphone turned on. You will also be included if you participate in the Q&A, either on audio/video or in the chat box.
If you do not wish to be part of the recording, merely keep your camera and microphone turned off and do not participate in the Q&As or add comments to the chat box. We cannot edit you out after the event.
Can I download articles or recordings from the site?
Audio and video recordings cannot be downloaded and must be played through the School of Sound website.
Articles may be downloaded. In READ, click on the article title. You will find the download button in the upper right corner of the pop-up page.
