About the Series (13, 20, and 27 of January 2024)
Over the course of three lectures, Rob will guide us through some of the iterative and collaborative approaches for creating sound in video games. Using linear sound production as a touchstone, the series begins with A Game Development Primer for the creative work of sound, followed by Ludic Sound, a deep dive into understanding a design approach that accounts for the presence of a player. The final lecture in the series, Leading with Sound, focuses on the uncertainty, ambiguity and opportunities for sound work in the extremely dynamic conceptual and early production phases of game development.

Ludic Sound – Information in an Emotional Wrapper
Rob Bridgett is a British-Canadian Audio Director, Mix Supervisor, Sound Designer and Recordist based in Newfoundland. In 1993, Rob attended Derby University to study cinema and media and was one of the first to graduate from the ‘Sound Design for the Moving Image’ Master’s degree programme at Bournemouth University in 1999. Having worked as an audio director in the games industry since 2001 (Vivendi Games, Activision Blizzard, Square Enix, PlayStation) Rob has become an advocate for the creative use of sound in video games and is the author of Working with Sound and Leading with Sound (Routledge/Focal Press).
